In Miami, a Subway Line Underground and Lady Aiko at Her Biggest Scale
Goldman Global Arts in Miami is giving two solo exhibitions to two artists who came up through graffiti. Lady Aiko is showing the biggest paintings she has made in roughly thirty years of work. That alone is reason to go: an artist's largest pictures, hung together for the first time. GIZ has taken the other approach and built a full environment that brings the New York underground into a Miami gallery. It follows how graffiti grew, and walking through it is part of the point. Under one roof, visitors can see a single painter's work at the largest scale she has attempted, then step into a room that maps where her whole field began. For Miami collectors, the attraction is two strong cases for graffiti made indoors, at the same address.
