Moore, Picasso and Arp Are Leaving the Tisch Walls for Christie's Block
Christie's will bring a group of works assembled by the Tisch family to sale. Among them are pieces by Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso and Jean Arp, three names that rarely share a single consignor's wall, along with other artists still to be detailed. Moore's bronze forms and Arp's organic shapes sit at the center of twentieth-century sculpture, and a Picasso needs no introduction to anyone who has ever stood in a saleroom. That one family lived with all three says something about the eye behind the collecting, and about the patience it takes to hold works of this caliber rather than trade them. The sale date, the full lot list and any estimates have not yet been made public, and we will report them when the house does. For now, the news is simply that a notable American collection is opening its doors, and the works are coming out to be seen before they find their next homes.
