A Medaglia d'Oro Daughter Leads All the Way in Keeneland's Queen Elizabeth II
Tam Tam took the lead early in the Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland and kept it to the wire. She broke and went straight to the lead, and from there the race was hers to lose. When her rivals made their run in the closing stages, she still had enough left, and none of them got past. It is her second Grade I win, and Grade I is the top level of American racing. A horse who wins once at that level has done something many good horses never manage. Winning there twice puts her in a small group. For her sire, Medaglia d'Oro, it adds another top-level win by one of his offspring, and that kind of result matters to breeders and buyers well after the race is over. Leading from start to finish is the hardest way to win. Everyone else in the race knows where the leader is and gets to plan around her. Tam Tam ran in front with the whole field behind her, and she was still in front at the finish.
