Why the Pointed Arch Came Back After Five Centuries
Gothic Revival is a style's second life. Roughly five hundred years after Gothic building first took shape, architects brought it back into favor, and Architectural Digest has named nine buildings it counts as the finest examples of that return. By the magazine's account, three things drove the revival: a longing for an earlier age, the pull of the Romantic movement and pride of country. Anyone who stops on the sidewalk to look up at a pointed arch can see that well-made design can come back into use long after it first appeared.
