Decades of Patient Work Return a Soho Townhouse to Its Era

· 1 min read

One Soho townhouse has been carried back to the condition of its own century by an owner who gave the job the better part of a lifetime. When the work began, the house was a rooming house that had taken hard use, the kind of building that is more often gutted than saved. Instead, the restoration proceeded room by room over many years, until the interiors read as they would have when the house was new. No sale is attached to the house and no price has been placed on it, so what the project represents is not a figure but a rare completeness on a block where most such buildings were long ago cut up or stripped.
