A Sculptor's Own Eye Goes to the Block, $100 Million Strong
According to the New York Times, a collection of paintings by masters old and modern, valued at about $100 million, is coming up for sale, and the seller is Jeff Koons. The house running the sale has not named the consignor. The Times credits two people in the trade, neither named, for identifying him. Those few facts are all anyone has so far, and they are enough to hold attention. When an artist turns out to be a collector of other artists, people want to know what he chose to live with. Palm Beach will treat it as a question of connoisseurship, Miami will want to know who gets the catalog first, and Naples will quietly start measuring a wall. Whoever takes these pictures home gets the works themselves and the judgment of the person who chose them.
