A Modigliani You Can Walk Around, at a Price Even Palm Beach Would Notice

Phillips is bringing a Modigliani sculpture to the block with an estimate that reaches $35 million. Sculpture by Modigliani is not a thing one encounters often, which is a good part of why the number is what it is. The house is betting that the appetite for his work shown lately in salesrooms overseas will travel, and that a bidder here will meet it. For the collectors who split the year between a house on South Ocean Boulevard and a condo on Gulf Shore Boulevard, this is the kind of lot that gets a phone line reserved early. Miami will want to know who bought it. Palm Beach will want to know where it is going. Naples will quietly ask whether it is already spoken for.
